Other ways to help reduce symptoms of morning sickness include:

  • Avoid having an empty stomach
  • Drink water in sips rather than large gulps
  • Suck on ice cubes made from water or fruit juice
  • Avoid eating foods that cause irritation such as spices, capsicum and chilli as they can further irritate an already irritated gastric lining.
  • Dry and savoury foods such as dry crackers or crispbread are usually better tolerated than sweet or spicy foods.
  • Food which is often cold in temperature can be better tolerated than warm foods.
  • Chewing on some ginger may also help reduce nausea.
  • Rest is the best treatment for early pregnancy symptoms. Tiredness can make nausea worse, so the more you rest, the better.
